R.O.M.

Reprogramming Our MindsThe P.R.A.Y. Foundation recognizes that people in underserved communities are in desperate need of hope, direction, healing, accountability, and real tools for change. Many individuals are carrying pain they have never talked about, trauma they have never healed from, choices they have never fully faced, and dreams they have pushed to the side because life has been hard.In many underserved communities, people lack potential, access, support, guidance, opportunities, and positive spaces where they can be heard, challenged, encouraged, and rebuilt from the inside out. Too many people have been labeled by their mistakes, environment, past situations, poverty, anger, or circumstances. The P.R.A.Y. Foundation believes a person’s past need not be the final word for their future. For this reason, nonprofit organizations and community leaders in Jackson, Mississippi, developed a workbook/program titled R.O.M. – Reprogramming Our Minds.Communities in Jackson are facing real challenges, including poverty, violence, trauma, broken families, crime, grief, and hopelessness. This workbook was created to help individuals in these communities become better fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, friends, neighbors, leaders, and overall better people. It is designed to help participants think more deeply, speak more clearly, make stronger choices, and begin the process of becoming the person they know they can be.

P.R.A.Y.
Inside Out Mentor Program

Becoming a P.R.A.Y. MentorOne of the most powerful ways to stay free from gang life is to reach back and help others find their way out. Your story, mistakes, and your growth can become the blueprint for someone else’s freedom.Through the P.R.A.Y. Foundation’s Inside Out Mentor Program, you have the opportunity to guide and inspire youth who are still trapped in gang culture. By becoming a P.R.A.Y. Mentor, you can send letters, share your wisdom, and speak life into young men and women who desperately need direction. When you mentor, you remind yourself daily of the reasons you left the streets behind. Helping others stay free strengthens your own commitment to change. If you want to take this step, you can write to the P.R.A.Y. Foundation and ask about becoming part of the Inside Out Program. Together, we can create a chain reaction of freedom, men and women helping the next generation break away from gangs and walk into their purpose.Remember: The voice of someone who has lived it carries more weight than a hundred lectures. Your voice could be the one that saves a life.

P.R.A.Y. Inside Out Mentor Voices: Why Mentorship Matters

These testimonies come from incarcerated men and women who now use their lived experiences to guide others. Through the P.R.A.Y. Inside Out Mentor Program, they reflect on the choices, pain, consequences, and lessons that shaped their lives. The testimonies show why the P.R.A.Y. Foundation believes mentorship can change lives before it is too late. In their own words, these participants shared how childhood loss, rejection, and the need for love and acceptance led them down a destructive path. One mentor shared how gang life led to regret, incarceration, and a desire to warn others before they make the same mistakes. Another mentor wrote about entering prison young, living without purpose, and later choosing growth, accountability, and change. The last story is a powerful reminder that many people do not start out bad; they start out hurting. Without guidance, support, and someone to show they care, pain can turn into poor choices, addiction, crime, and incarceration.Through the P.R.A.Y. Inside Out Mentor Program, lived experiences like these are used to reach young people, families, and others who may be searching for acceptance in the wrong places. Their words show the power of mentorship from the inside out. These men and women are not glorifying their past. They are using their truth to encourage youth, support transformation, and help others understand that every choice has consequencesThe P.R.A.Y. Inside Out Mentor Program is growing! We currently have incarcerated individuals serving as mentors from six states — California, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, and Mississippi. The P.R.A.Y. Foundation believes lived experience can become a tool for healing, prevention, and purpose. One caring person can help change the direction of a life.
